Medical and Surgical
Medical Optics is a “one-tier” practice, catering for both private patients and medical card holders. We endeavour to keep waiting times for routine appointments to less than 2 weeks. We are primarily a medical eye practice where most eye diseases are diagnosed and treated. We have a modern surgery room where minor surgery for eyelid and tear duct problems are conducted by the medical eye doctor. Cataract surgery is not done on site but is fast-tracked to the appropriate private or public hospital surgical services.Urgent cases can be seen sooner when referred by general practitioners or opticians.
For those who require it we also run a glasses prescribing and dispensing service. We have a number of optometrists (ophthalmic opticians) who can evaluate your eyesight and our dispensing opticians and their assistants will do their utmost to make the choice and fitting of your new glasses a pleasurable and rewarding experience. Our optometrists work closely with our eye doctors and are experienced at screening for eye disease and will ask you to see one of the eye doctors if an abnormal eye condition is discovered during your initial examination.
Only modern examination equipment is used at Medical Optics for investigating the health of your eyes and the equipment we use is of international ophthalmology standard. Our optometrists and their assistants are trained to carry out the investigations accurately and efficiently. If it is necessary to refer you for tertiary treatment to a hospital then the integration of your information is seamless as all our testing equipment is compatible with Irish Hospital Eye Departments. At Medical Optics all your records are electronically based and we are fully compliant with the Data Protection Commissioner’s requirements.
